As we highlight the amazing women who have made major contributions to the STEMM fields for Women’s History Month, we cannot leave out Dr. Minerva Cordero. She has made an incredible impact in the STEMM fields and mentoring people from various backgrounds. In February of this year, Dr. Cordero was announced as an awardee of the prestigious PAESMEM award. The PAESMEM award was created to recognize those who have made significant contributions to mentoring and thereby support the future productivity of the U.S. science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine workforce.
Dr. Cordero is a Puerto Rican born woman with a speciality in Mathematics. Dr. Cordero has overcome many challenges during her education and her continued career in higher education. Mentoring has become a skill and task that Dr. Cordero takes pride in. During our time interviewing and discussing with Dr. Cordero, she spoke about how she overcame the many obstacles and challenges with being an Hispanic woman in STEMM. Dr. Cordero is a light to be around and speaks of joy when it comes to her mentees and previous mentors.
