Mentorship Trainings in NRMN Phase 2
In Phase 1, we developed and implemented mentor training, mentee training, and facilitator training. In Phase 2, these continue to be offered through CIMER, our partners, and virtually through MyMentor, our own guided virtual mentorship platform.
Below, you can find out more about these trainings as well as where to request them.
What is Mentor Training?
This evidence-based, interactive approach engages mentors in collective problem solving and connects them with resources to optimize their mentoring practices.
Facilitator training is also available for those interested in learning how to implement research mentor training at their own institution or organization through CIMER.
For Whom is Mentor Training for?
Research mentor training was developed for the research mentors of undergraduate students, graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, or junior faculty working with trainees across the science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine (STEMM) disciplines.
Facilitator training is available for faculty, instructors, staff, or administrators who are committed to implementing research mentor training workshops at their institution or organization through CIMER.
Why is Mentor Training important?
Research mentor training has been tested and shown to be effective in increasing mentoring knowledge, skills, and behavior. Furthermore, culturally responsive interactions between mentors and mentees can help historically underrepresented mentees successfully progress in their research careers, becoming effective mentors, scientific leaders, and research team members of the future.
What is Mentee Training?
Research mentee training is an evidence-based, interactive approach that introduces trainees to the culture of research and teaches them skills for successfully navigating their mentoring relationships.
Facilitator training is also available for those interested in learning how to implement research mentor training at their own institution or organization through CIMER.
For Whom is Mentee Training for?
Research mentee training was developed for undergraduate students, graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and junior faculty across the science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine (STEMM) disciplines.
Facilitator training is available for faculty, postdoctoral fellows, instructors, staff, or administrators who are committed to implementing research mentee training courses, seminars, or workshops at their institution or organization for undergraduate or graduate trainees through CIMER.
Why is Mentee Training Important?
Mentees need to develop skills to effectively work with their mentors and navigate the research environment. Research mentee training is a proven, structured approach to help mentees develop these skills.
