April showers bring May flowers! We hope you enjoy this springtime weather and are not being rained on too much. The team here at NRMN is working diligently to make sure the platform of MyNRMN is running smoothly and as user-friendly as possible. This month we would like to highlight a few new features. These new features are Projects, Pinned Post, and Documents in MyGroups.
Reminder: Make sure you aren’t missing out! Check your Junk, Spam, and/or Clutter folders to ensure you aren’t missing any requests from MyNRMN. Update your settings to receive these messages in your Inbox!
Projects
The Projects feature tool can be used to create projects and have multiple users assigned to work on that project. Project members will have a space to start a conversation about the specific project and receive feedback from the diverse network of MyNMRN. This is a great tool to use if you want to receive differing opinions on this project outside your specific institution or company.
I did a demo for the feature, gave my project the name “Lemon Battery Experiment”, and added the details asked in the project’s text boxes. In addition, you can add “Research Keywords” that work as tags to be directed to this specific project. There is an option to add collaborators to work on this project with you. These project collaborators need to have an account in MyNRMN. Under the project owners feature, you can add your project details. This is where you can provide all the items you need or any specific information you would like the network to review.
Pinned posts
The pinned post feature is a new addition to MyGroups in MyNRMN. Our team built this feature to help members see which posts are most pertinent to their group. You can pin a post to show all the group members which post is the most important. One social media platform that does this pinning of posts is Twitter. You can pin one of your Tweets to the top of your timeline. This shows this top Tweet to all who visit your Twitter profile. The same concept can be used for the MyNRMN groups’ feature. You can utilize this feature to bring the attention of your group members to any upcoming assignments or events, a new article you would like the group to read, a new grant application, and many more.
Documents feature
The new document feature has been added to MyNRMN MyGroups to help members organize documents added to the group. With this new feature, you can have your students or mentees add certificates of completion from our many courses, add their assignments, or any other documents you might need. We encourage you to utilize this feature in your groups to see how you can manage different documents and to determine if this feature would benefit your cohort of students or mentees.
Video-Sharing
Another new feature added to MyNRMN is the Video Sharing tool. This feature will allow you to share your screen with anyone in the video call. I am sure you have used the screen share feature with other video sharing tools such as Zoom or Teams. Therefore, the team here at NRMN realized this tool would help mentors show specific assignments, conference registrations, or different manuscripts they are working on. So we recognized the need for screen sharing, and we added it to our Video Call tool.
