Leading and Advocating Through the Winds of Change

The National Research Mentoring Network (NRMN) Mentor Training Core (NRMN Phase I) convened an expert panel to develop a 90 minute supplement module for training mentors of Clinical Educators (CE). This team included Sangeeta Lamba (Rutgers New Jersey Medical School ), Hollis Day (Boston University School of Medicine), Keith Norris (University of California, Los Angeles and the CEC) , Christine Pfund (University of Wisconsin, Madison and NRMN), Emelia Benjamin (Boston University School of Medicine), Robina Bhasin (Boston University School of Medicine), Geeta Singhal (Baylor College of Medicine) and Maria Soto-Greene (Rutgers New Jersey Medical School). The module includes a) case studies for solving common challenges for CE faculty; b) defining/examples of the broadened scope of scholarly activity for CEs; and c) documentation tools such as the clinical portfolio.
Description of the module and early outcomes from pilot testing at three US academic institutions were included in a poster presented at the 2019 GFA and GWIMS Joint Professional Development Conference– Leading and Advocating Through the Winds of Change in Chicago, IL, July 11 – 13 (https://www.aamc.org/members/gwims/pdopportunities/497270/2019gfaandgwimsprofessionaldevelopmentconference.html). The poster was awarded Best in Class for “Recruitment , Promotion, and Tenure”.
