Connect with NRMN at Scientific Meetings this Year

Personnel and representatives from the National Research Mentoring Network will be present at biomedical scientific conferences and annual meetings across the country this academic year. Here is a preview of NRMN’s plans at some of the most prominent of these events that support the development of scientists from a diverse range of populations.

2016 AAMC GREAT Group and GRAND Professional Development Meeting, hosted by the Association of American Medical Colleges
September 29 – October 1 | Rosemont, Illinois

NRMN will have a conference table at the AAMC GREAT Group Meeting. In addition to this, NRMN personnel will be offering several poster presentations with a general introduction to the Network, an overview of its research mentor and mentee training programs, and a glimpse into how NRMN’s career coaching groups model is being implemented in partnership with The American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASPET).

Attendees will be able to connect with NRMN during the “Meetings On-the-Fly and Networking” session on Friday, September 30th, from 2:30-3:30pm.

Immediately following this networking session, Dr. Rick McGee will be giving a special presentation about NRMN’s four models of coaching groups on grant proposal writing.

In attendance from NRMN will be Drs. Jamboor Vishwanatha, Christine Pfund, Rick McGee, and Christine Sorkness.

NRMN Master Facilitators Anne Lynn Gillian-Daniel and Sonia Zárate will be leading a mentor training session on October 13th entitled “Changing the Face of Science Through Mentoring.”

OnOctober 15th, Stephanie House and Ahna Skop will be leading a session entitled “Mentoring Through Movement.

NRMN will also be hosting a special “Meet and Greet” networking event during the conference (Date and Time TBD).

Confirmed in attendance from NRMN will be Drs. Dina Stroud, MariaElena Zavala, Nancy Schwartz, Kermin Martínez-Hernández, Anne Lynne Gillian-Daniel,  Sonia Zárate, Jamboor Vishwanatha, Ahna Skop and Stephanie House, as well as Thad Unold and Andrea Gouldy.

Also supporting NRMN at SACNAS 2016 will be Dr. Alberto Roca of Minority Postdoc’s DiverseScholar, Daniel McNulty of the Biophysical Society and Dr. Chellu Chetty of Savannah State University.

NRMN will be at booth # 620 at ABRCMS 2016!

NRMN Principal Investigator Dr. Jamboor Vishwanatha will be providing a presentation about NRMN on the evening of November 9th, after which attendees can learn further about NRMN from ABRCMS Chair Dr. Avery August in a plenary presentation he will give later that night.

Also on November 9th, Drs. Harlan Jones and Sonia Zárate are leading a 2.5-hour mentor training session entitled “Entering Mentoring: Research Mentor Training for Faculty working with Undergraduates.”

Confirmed in attendance from NRMN will be Drs. Jamboor Vishwanatha, Dina Stroud, Nancy Schwartz, Harlan Jones, Sonia Zárate, Kelly Diggs-Andrews, and Beronda Montgomery, as well as Kristin Eide and Andrea Gouldy.

Also supporting NRMN in addition to Dr. Avery August will be Daniel McNulty of the Biophysical Society and Dr. Chellu Chetty of Savannah State University.

On November 11th, NRMN will be hosting a special “Meet and Greet” networking event.
