So you’ve landed your first faculty position! Congratulations! Now what… Time to get into the nitty gritty of your contract and what to discuss with your employer before signing. Join us Friday May 6th, 2016 for a live Q&A to talk about navigating the higher ed landscape and negotiating an academic position. Our esteemed panel of experts will discuss their personal experiences, as well as offering practical advice on negotiating an academic research position. Topics they may touch on are determining a salary cap, your benefits package, securing tenure track etc.

This Google Hangout, hosted by iBiology and the National Research Mentoring Network (NRMN) will feature Dr. Raychelle BurksDr. Omar Quintero, and Dr. Kassandra Ori-Mckenney. Dr. Burks, MS, PhD, is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Doan College. Dr. Quintero, PhD,  is an Assistant Professor of Biology at the University of Richmond. Dr. Ori-Mckenney, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Molecular and Cellular Biology at University of California, Davis.
The event will be moderated by Dr. Mónica I. Feliú-Mójer, Science Outreach Program Manager for iBiology and Vice-Director for Ciencia Puerto Rico.

Dr. Mónica I. Feliú-Mójer is the the Science Outreach Program Manager for iBiology, an UCSF-based non-profit organization that produces free educational online videos featuring the world’s leading biologists. She is also the vice-director and news editor-in-chief of Ciencia Puerto Rico, an organization leveraging social networks to engage Hispanic scientists in culturally-relevant science communication and education. A scientist-turned-communicator, Mónica uses contextually-relevant and experiential-based lessons to make science and scientific role models accessible to underserved audiences. Mónica earned her B.S. in Human Biology at the University of Puerto Rico in Bayamón, and her Ph.D. in Neurobiology at Harvard University. She is a former graduate research fellow from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and in 2013 she won theCOPUS Paul Shin Memorial Award (2013) for her efforts to increase public understanding of science among Hispanic audiences. Her work has been featured on international media outlets, such as Univisión, VOXXI, and Scientific American among others.
