MyNRMN Enhancements & Highlights

July 2020

This summer, the MyNRMN Team has been BUSY!  As much of our daily lives have transitioned online, we’ve been working to create new spaces for NRMN members to learn, connect, and continue working toward their goals.  Thus, without further ado, read below to learn about a new feature, an opportunity, and an enhancement.

New Feature:  My Courses

Since the beginning, MyNRMN has focused on networking and mentoring.  Now we’re adding a new gerund to our resources:  learning.  MyNRMN has officially launched My Courses, which is a space for mentees and mentors alike to enroll in virtual courses which can be taken individually and in a time frame that fits any schedule.  The first course we’ve launched is Unconscious Bias.  This is a five-module course which was created by Drs. Linda Solis and Mirabelle Fernandes Paul and focuses on helping users recognize their own biases in order to work toward behaviors of acceptance.

Unconscious Bias is our first course, but it is far from our last!  We are currently adapting another curriculum developed by a team from the University of Georgia surrounding research experience and laboratory readiness and we’re always looking for our next project.  Thus, if you or a group you know would like to collaborate on a new course, please feel free to reach out to us at info@nrmnet.net.  Until then, happy learning!

Opportunity:  Request for MyNRMN Mobile App Beta Testers

Our team has been working diligently to develop the MyNRMN Mobile App and it’s almost ready!  The final step before the app is released is to provide a few select users early access to test the app and provide feedback.  We only have space for a limited number of testers, so volunteers will be accepted on a first-come first-served basis.  If you would like to volunteer to test the new MyNRMN Mobile App, let us know at info@nrmnet.net!

Enhancement:  New Layout for Conversations

MyNRMN has always provided NRMN members multiple means of communication, from instant messages, regular messages, mentoring messages, and Ask Me a Question messages.  As we continued to add more and more ways for users to communicate, we decided to re-structure the messaging components to make it easier for users to keep track of conversations.  Now, any time a member engages in a one-on-one communication with another member, that communication will be stored as a conversation so that it’s easy to see all of the correspondence in one place.  Thus, you may start a conversation with another member by using the Ask Me a Question feature, then leave messages back and forth, then see that they’re online at the same time as you and instant message, and later decide to start a MyMentor connection with them.  Now, instead of going back into each one of these features to find your conversation history, it’s all stored in one, easy-to-communicate space!  To find your message history with another user, simply click their name and you’ll see everything!
