Sandra Quinn, PhD – University of Maryland, College Park

Sandra Quinn, PhD is a Professor and Chair in the Department of Family Science and Senior Associate Director of the Center for Health Equity at the School of Public Health at the University of Maryland, College Park. She was the joint Principal Investigator on the recently completed Center of Excellence in Race, Ethnicity, and Health Disparities Research, funded by the National Institute for Minority Health and Health Disparities, and within it, she was the Principal Investigator on a study, "Uncovering and Addressing Cultural Beliefs behind Vaccine Racial Disparities." She was also the Principal Investigator on a study, "Public Understanding of Medical Countermeasures," funded by the US Food and Drug Administration. She is joint Principal Investigator on a study, "Supplementing Survey-Based Analyses of Group Vaccination Narratives and Behaviors Using Social Media," funded by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences. Additionally, she is a co-Investigator on the National Research Mentoring Network grant from the NIH. Her research interests include engagement of minority and marginalized communities in research; factors associated with vaccine acceptance in routine and emergency situations; and risk communication in emergencies, pandemics, and disasters with a focus on minority populations.
Since beginning her academic career in 1995, she has been committed to mentoring young scholars, who because of race, ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation, may experience additional challenges in their research careers. Being engaged in NRMN builds on that commitment; her experience and values enables her to work with a talented national team to make a difference across the country.
