Mitchell Feldman, MD, MPhil, FACP – University of California, San Francisco

Mitchell D. Feldman, MD, MPhil, FACP is Professor of Medicine, Associate Vice Provost for Faculty Mentoring, and Chief of the Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) where he is also the Co-Director of the Mentor Development Program of the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI). Dr. Feldman’s research interests are focused on mentoring in academic medicine and on psychiatric and behavioral issues in medical patients. He was a Fulbright Research Scholar and Visiting Professor at Kyoto University investigating mentoring in academic medicine in Japan. He was the Co-Editor in Chief of the Journal of General Internal Medicine (2009-2017) and is the Co-Editor of the textbook Behavioral Medicine: A Guide for Clinical Practice published (McGraw-Hill).
Dr. Feldman helped create and has run the Mentor Training Program at UCSF, which has trained more than 100 research mentors over the past decade. He also founded and oversees the UCSF Faculty Mentoring Program which provides career mentors for around 900 assistant professor faculty members at UCSF in the schools of medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and dentistry. He has conducted dozens of mentor training workshops nationally and internationally with a special interest in mentor training for clinician investigators.
Dr. Feldman graduated Phi Beta Kappa from The Johns Hopkins University, obtained an MPhil from Cambridge University, England, and completed his MD and internal medicine training at the University of California, San Francisco. He is currently serving on the national council of the Society of General Internal Medicine.
