Lori Adams, PhD – University of Iowa

Lori Adams, PhD serves as both a Lecturer and Program Director at the University of Iowa (UI). Dr. Adams co-directs the NSF-funded LSAMP-IINSPIRE Alliance program as well as the NIH-funded Iowa Biosciences Academy (IBA) IMSD program whose mission is to increase the diversity of students earning PhDs in the Biosciences. Lastly, Dr. Adams is the Director of the Latham Science Engagement Initiative and is piloting a program that facilitates undergraduate interactions across STEM disciplines and challenges students to communicate the broader impact of scientific research to non-science audiences.
Since 2015, Dr. Adams has been an active research mentor and research mentee training facilitator with NRMN. She leads both mentor and mentee trainings at the national level, as well as facilitator trainings for the Entering Mentoring and Entering Research curricula. Dr. Adams is also a Master Consultant for Entering Research, a mentee training curriculum designed for undergraduate and graduate level trainees. Master Consultants are curriculum experts who can provide individualized consultations on curriculum and implementation plans using the Entering Research curriculum. She has been active in adapting and expanding the Entering Research curriculum for graduate student and postdoctoral mentees. She received her degrees from the University of Illinois (BS) and Texas A&M (PhD).
