Emma Meagher, MD – University of Pennsylvania

Emma A. Meagher, MD serves as Professor of Medicine and Pharmacology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Meagher graduated cum laude with her Medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland, and completed postgraduate training in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and Pharmacology.
In her role as Vice Dean and Chief Clinical Research Officer, Dr. Meagher oversees the institution’s clinical research infrastructure and its portfolio, and sets the strategy for Penn Medicine’s clinical research enterprise. In her role as Director of Clinical and Translational Research Training, Dr. Meagher is responsible for three Master’s degree programs, three certificate programs, annual workshops, and symposia; in addition to educational curricula directed at clinical research support staff. She is also Past-President of the Association for Clinical and Translational Science (ACTS) and chairs its Education Committee.
Dr. Meagher is an NRMN Master Facilitator, facilitating since 2012. In partnership with The Children’s Hospital of Pennsylvania (CHOP) Research Institute, she developed an annual Research Mentor Training program for faculty mentors conducting Clinical and Translational Science (CTS). The program contains elements of the curriculum developed at the University of Wisconsin, enhanced with elements focused on improving work/life integration skills adapted from the Total Leadership program developed at the Wharton Business School. In spring 2016, she piloted a Mentee Training curriculum with Master’s in Translational Research graduate students.
