Amber Smith, PhD – University of Wisconsin-Madison

Amber Smith, PhD is the Director of Mentor and Mentee Training at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In this role, Dr. Smith supports undergraduates to find and succeed in research opportunities through a series of professional development seminars and workshops using the Entering Research curriculum, a mentee training curriculum designed for undergraduate and graduate level trainees. She also coordinates training professional development opportunities for graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty mentors including an Entering Mentoring seminar, Culturally Aware Mentor training, and tailored mentor/mentee training workshops for graduate training programs.
Dr. Smith has used her experience working with undergraduate researchers in her contributions to the revised Entering Research curriculum. She is also a Master Consultant for Entering Research. Master Consultants are curriculum experts who provide individualized consultations on curriculum and implementation plans using the Entering Research curriculum.
Dr. Smith holds degrees from Carroll College (BS, Biology) and the University of Wisconsin-Madison (PhD, Plant Breeding Plant Genetics).
