RROC Launches Virtual Health Disparities Learning Collaboratory (HDLC)

HDLCApril 25, 2017 – The NRMN Research Resources and Outreach Core (RROC), led by Dr. Elizabeth Ofili of Morehouse School of Medicine, is pleased to announce the launch of the Health Disparities Learning Collaboratory (HDLC): An inclusive learning environment, the HDLC is testing the hidden influence of social networks and the role of team science, collaboration and communication, in fostering persistence of scholars in the outcome of grant submissions within 4-6 months of completing NRMN grant writing. HDLC supports Writing Accountability Groups (WAGs), peer interactions and coaching interactions using searchable cross platform messaging (mobile and desktop).  Social Network Analysis (SNA) will be conducted in collaboration with Dr. Henry Kautz, Director, Data Science Institute, University of Rochester, NY.

Potential SNA: the pattern of connections or ties between scholars and how that translates into grant success/completion/submission. Comparing patterns among submitters vs. non submitters: Network number; centrality; density; transitivity.  HDLC will support access to online health disparities coursework, and coordination of small group “laboratories” based on research interest and career stage. Mentoring Academy consultations and Shark Tank Studios are additional features. HDLC will “go live” following the Southeast Training Hub (SETH) Event on May 10-12, 2017.
