The Mentor Training Core (MTC) serves as a national hub to prepare mentors and mentees in biomedical research through training, both in-person and online. The MTC delivers evidence-based training programs designed to help mentors and mentees engage in productive, culturally responsive mentoring relationships.
The Mentorship and Networking Core (MNC) develops an in-person and online network of mentors and mentees in order to increase the number of scientists from diverse backgrounds in biomedical, behavioral, clinical and social science research careers. The MNC oversees the development and management of this NRMNet.net website as an online resource for mentorship, networking and professional development. This includes the NRMN Guided Virtual Mentorships Program which entails a four-month experience with regular, guided interactions between mentors and mentees at a distance.
The overarching goal of the Professional Development Core (PDC) is to address the unmet need for more diversity in the biomedical research workforce by creating and nationally disseminating transformative, high-impact, professional development programs to support mentees from diverse backgrounds in biomedical/bio-behavioral disciplines.
The Research Resources and Outreach Core (RROC) leverages existing Research Centers in Minority Institutions Program (RCMI) research infrastructure to address needs in mentorship training and support the entry of new scholars across NIMHD funded RCMI institutions. RROC integrates with the Cores by engaging the leadership across RCMI and partnering Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA) to sustain interest from scholars, cultivate master trainers, and expand NRMN’s portfolio of new training grants.
