“Biomedical Graduate Education & Careers for Scientists (PhD)”
June 15th from 1-2 pm CDT
Drs. Audra Van Wart and Dave Wessinger discuss the possibilities within the biomedical community.
This webinar will describe the education and training of biomedical science PhDs and MD-PhDs, which leads to exciting and rewarding careers. PhD programs in the biomedical sciences prepare students to become experts in a particular field of science and to pursue careers in many different areas. Students who pursue graduate degrees in the biomedical sciences often have undergraduate degrees in biophysics, chemistry, mathematics, computer science and quantitative fields of the biological sciences.
Participants will discover the wide variety of careers open to graduates of PhD programs. Many PhD’s go on to become research faculty at medical schools and universities. Others pursue careers pathways within research institutes or the pharmaceutical industry, as well as opportunities in science education at any level, science communication in all media, science administration and public policy, consulting, and intellectual property law.
The PhD Outreach Committee of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) organized this workshop, which explains the careers of PhDs Scientists and how students can prepare for and train for these careers. Presenters do not discuss individual graduate programs, but discuss common features of these programs. The webinar will include time for Q&A.
Upon completion, students will have an understanding of the educational pathways leading to the PhD, as well as knowledge of the broad range of careers possible for biomedical PhD Scientists.
