NRMN GUMSHOE Cohort 1

October 21, 2015

Grantwriting Uncovered: Maximizing Strategies, Help, Opportunities, Experiences (GUMSHOE)

Offered through the NRMN Professional Development Core
Program Directors
Spero Manson, PhD, UC Denver & Dedra Buchwald, MD, WSU

Schedule:
Online – From October 2015 through April 2016, online meetings are scheduled weekly amongst the group.
Denver, CO – October 21-23, 2015

GUMSHOE will provide grantwriting and mentoring to motivated post-doctoral/post residency trainees and junior faculty who meet the threshold eligibility criteria (U.S. citizen or non-citizen nationals or permanent residents), and who have a demonstrated interest in, and experience with  research on questions addressing minority health.   This program is designed for applicants with little to no grantwriting experience as well as those who have yet to successfully secure research support from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). GUMSHOE will cover up to $1,000 in costs for travel and accommodations for each participant; there is no tuition or cost for the actual GUMSHOE program.
NIH funded GUMSHOE under the National Research Mentoring Network (NRMN), with the goal of identifying effective mentoring and networking strategies that promise to work for a diverse population of mentees, including those from backgrounds underrepresented in the biomedical research workforce.   While GUMSHOE is open all individuals meeting the eligibility criteria, the program strongly encourages applications from individuals from groups identified as nationally underrepresented in the biomedical, clinical, behavioral and social sciences.  These groups include: individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups, individuals with disabilities, individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds and women at senior faculty levels in biomedical-relevant disciplines. See, Notice of NIH’s Interest in Diversity, http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-15-053.html.

Jr. faculty and postdocs: For information on participating as a Trainee in future coaching groups, please visit the NMRN-GUMSHOE Page.
