MyNRMN Enhancements & Highlights, May 2021

While we haven’t reached the Summer Solstice yet, the daily temperatures are telling us that it’s almost here!  That means it’s time for summer research programs to start and new opportunities for the Fall are filling up the new MyNRMN Jobs & Internships Board.  Additionally, we have some announcements about a new course and an update to the NRMN website.

I would also like to take the time to acknowledge the ever-growing security measures that all of our work and personal email accounts are currently undergoing.  These security measures keep our accounts and our devices safe.  However, these measures may also cause some wanted emails to go into Junk, Spam, or Clutter folders.  Thus, to make sure that you’re receiving all of the notifications and mentoring requests from MyNRMN, check these folders regularly and update your settings to continue receiving these messages.

MyNRMN Jobs & Internships Board

The MyNRMN Jobs & Internships Board has been open for a little over a month and we’re already seeing some exciting opportunities posted to the community!  Opportunities posted in the Jobs & Internships Board range from job postings to funding opportunities, to summer research, to calls for abstracts and posters, and everything in between.  To access the new Jobs & Internships Board, simply log into your MyNRMN account and select “Jobs & Internships” from the grey panel on the left.  It’s easy to post a job, star a post to return to later, and leave comments on posts to provide your recommendations.  Have fun exploring and applying!

Coming Soon:  Mentee Training Course

For many, starting work in a lab is a completely new experience with unfamiliar guidelines and protocols.  The working relationships are different, the approach to research subjects is completely new, and the reporting of findings is not as previously expected.  For too many people, this unfamiliarity contributes to a lack of science identity and sense of belonging in the STEMM fields.  This is why NRMN has partnered with the duo that created Research Experience and Mentoring modules as well as a scientist that created Responsible Conduct of Research trainings to create a new course:  Launching Research, Part 1: Laboratory Readiness.  This course will introduce new researchers to the laboratory, discuss mentor and mentee responsibilities, cover Standard Operating Procedures, walk the learner through research articles, and many other topics!  This first part of this course (Part 1: Laboratory Readiness) will launch this summer and the second part of this course (Part 2: Tools for Organization and Investigation) will launch in time for the Fall Semester.

Coming Soon:  NRMNet.net is getting a facelift!

We are very excited to announce that the NRMN website (https://nrmnet.net) is getting a facelift!  The past designs of the NRMN website have served us very well, but we’re ready to mature our aesthetic.  The redesigned website will maintain all of the features that you’ve grown to know and love, just with cleaner lines and simple navigation.  During the design process, it was a priority of ours to maintain the key elements of our home page and the menu, to ensure that you are always able to find what you need.  The new design will launch this summer and we can’t wait for you to see it!
