My Publications: Networking intersects an NIH requirement

In July 2019, the NIH announced a new requirement for all grant applications starting in FY 2020:  “the requirement for ORCID identifiers will be implemented through the appointment process for those appointed to institutional awards and through the application process for those applying for individual awards” (NOT-OD-19-109).  In other words, everyone applying for an NIH grant must have an ORCID iD.  ORCID is a global organization that provides digital identifiers (ORCID iDs) to researchers.  Individuals can create an ORCID iD for free and/or organizations have the option to pay for a subscription that fits their needs (https://orcid.org/).

Upon hearing the new NIH application requirement, the MyNRMN Team decided to develop a feature that will meet this requirement as well as facilitate the networking needs of the NRMN members.  The result:  My Publications.  The My Publications feature allows NRMN members to create and sync their ORCID iD as well as download publications from PubMed to add to their MyNRMN profile.  Once publications have been downloaded, they will be searchable, thus enabling other MyNRMN users to network and seek mentoring based on published research and interests, in addition to field of interest, location, institution, etc.

To get started, simply select the My Publications feature within MyNRMN. Next, download publications from PubMed and/or manually add new publications.  Finally, select the ORCID Profile tab and enter your ORCID iD number.  If you do not have an ORCID iD, use this opportunity to create your ORCID profile.  If you have any questions, select “Need Help?” at the top of the screen and a MyNRMN Team Member will be happy to assist.
