NIH Programs for Graduate and Clinical Students

Graduate students acquire the knowledge and independence that is required to earn the research doctorate degree. Clinical students acquire the knowledge to earn the clinical doctorate degree. Fellowships

There are many sources of fellowships that support graduate study in the STEM disciplines.  Many of these fellowships not only cover tuition and fees, but also provide a generous stipend and assist with health insurance.

Doctoral Programs

The following resources are worth considering if you are looking ahead to a doctoral degree.

AGEP programs provide excellent mentorship and professional development support to students as they pursue their graduate degrees. There are over 33 Alliances located at over 200 colleges and universities.
  • Click here to take a look at IGERT – Integrative Graduate Education Research and Traineeship programs. IGERT programs are interdisciplinary Ph.D. programs, worth exploring if you think you may be interested in pursuing a Ph.D. IGERTs provide full tuition coverage plus a stipend, and are available in a wide variety of disciplines.
  • Click here for information about The Minority Medical Student Award Program (MMSAP) offered through the American Society of Hematology. Each year, up to 10 minority medical students enrolled in DO, MD, or MD/PhD programs are selected to participate. Students can select from two MMSAP options: Summer research experience or Flexible research experience.
